The guitar is looking great and we're going to spray some more clear over the weekend. Check back next week for photos.
Word of warning. When you spray clear over the cherry shader it may make the cherry "creep" onto the white binding. Mist some coats on the cherry, particularly around the binding, until the color is set.

The weather is very humid, so we decided to install some new pickups in our FM3 TV guitar. We had tired of the humbuckers and decided to install some single coil P-90s. We scored some Mighty Mite P-90s with covers and screws on eBay for $29.99! We put them in and they sound great -- very Leslie West and Mountain-like. Lots of hum, but it does sound great cranked.

Not much work over the weekend. We lightly scuff-sanded the entire body and headstock with a 320-grit sanding sponge from 3M. The grit is not very aggressive, and it helps to generally level the lacquer before we go to more clear coats. We like the sponge because it is convenient and typically of high 3m quality.
We found when we built the Blue FM2 that using a "scratch coat" sure makes the lacquer looks nice and smooth at the end of the process, and it sure makes sanding and buffing easier.
Overall, the current finish looks pretty good, and we expect to have it ready to buff by Christmas.
