The guitar's back is looking great, and we took some photos today. Be sure to check the website at ....they photos should be up NLT 1 November.
We saw today in the bright sunlight that checking, checking, then double checking the binding for any overspray of cherry shader pays big dividends in producing a very nice-looking binding. Really take your time here, because if you don't, the clear coats will lock in your mistake.

We sprayed some clear on the blushing body, and it looks great. The humidity was way down today, and it was perfect for spraying. When spraying on the blush, I recommend lightly spraying until the blush disappears, then start regular spray patterns.

We posted some photos of the Les Paul's body on guitarattack.com. The photos will be replaced soon by some taken outside in the bright sunlight. The artificial light does not do justice to the sunburst. We plan to spray some more clear this afternoon, and we'll post results as soon as we have them. The blushing is still there, but it will be gone with some fresh clear coats.

Why did the clear coat blush? That is what happens when the humidity is over 90%. If you haven't seen the blushing, it is literally a white haze where you have sprayed the clear. The blush is trapped moisture. If you don't have blush eraser to spray on it, you can wait until the weather dries and spray some clear. It will disappear with the new coats.
I think binding would be much easier with a peel-away plastic coat on the outside. This would help keep the glue off and make painting very easy. Just a thought...kind of like the coating on plexiglas sheets when you buy them at Lowe's.
More later....
We promised photos, but to no avail. The weather turned extremely humid and the clear coats on the heritage cherry blushed incredibly. There are two lessons learned. First, masking binding is a tough job, and sometimes you overmask the binding and miss a spot with the shader. Second, take your time with scraping the binding. Spend some time over a couple of days on this before spraying with clear. I found some more cherry overspray this morning, after I thought it was all gone. Get a magnifying headband also -- will help immeasureably.
Check back for photos later.
Good Luck!

Lots of work on the Spare Parts Les Paul today. We sprayed the back and neck in heritage cherry from ReRanch. It really looks great -- just some scraping to do on the neck binding. Remember to used that "indexed razor blade" to clean the binding. Use a magnifyer in this step -- once you start spraying clear it is hard to go back.
Check back tomorrow on Guitarattack.com for some photos of the top. We used our super-cheap Testors air brush to spray a convincing sunburst on the top. The guitar is starting to look great. Make sure you check back!
By the way -- we used some 3M medium tack, safe release masking tape and it made a real mess. The adhesive seemed to stick all over the guitar. Very strange.
Good Luck!
